Work in the theater includes:

Musical staging for the Broadway, National and London Companies of City of Angels. Directed companies of Camelot, Hello Dolly!, Cabaret, Once Upon a Mattress, Annie Get Your Gun and Applause. Directed and Choreographed an original production of HOAGY, the life of Hoagy Carmichael, at the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Directed & Choreographed PAZZAZZ a new musical with book, music & lyrics by Richard Sherman & Milt Larson. Choreographed Leave It to Jane at the Goodspeed Opera House.

 

Directed the new comedy I REMEMBER YOU by Bernard Slade starring Tony Danza at Gary Marshall’s Falcon Theater, BAD HABITS by Terrance McNally, BILOXI BLUES by Neil Simon and A FEW GOOD MEN by Aaron Sorkin.    Most recently Produced & Directed L.A. DELI  a new comedy by Sam Bobrick at the Marilyn Monroe theatre in Los Angeles.

 

In development: MOON OVER PARADOR book by Leon Capetanos & Paul Mazursky, Music by Bill Conti and Lyrics by Gerard Alessandrini.

 

In addition Mr. Painter is a three-time Emmy Award winner for outstanding choreography in television and a  seven time nominee.  Productions include Musical Comedy Tonight for PBS Great Performances, four Academy Awards shows, two Tony Awards shows, Happy Birthday Hollywood and the 25th ANNIVERSARY of The Kennedy Center. ( Complete list of Television credits available).  This year, at their annual luncheon The Professional Dancers Society will recognize Painter’ for his outstanding choreography in Television.

 

In film, Painter was responsible for the musical staging of BOGUS, starring WHOOPI GOLDBERG and directed by NORMAN JEWISON, as well as RAY’S HETEROSEXUAL DANCE CLUB, winner of the Academy Award for Best Short Subject, Live Action.

 

For the last few  years Painter  has taught two professional level dance classes each week.  Using his own Jazz Dance style and stressing that a "group of steps does not make a dance” and that professional dancers are often called upon to use their God given gifts to make the simplest choreography look as impressive as the complicated.

 

Industrial credits include shows for Toyota, Gallo Wineries and General Motors.  Mr. Painter has directed and staged two editions of RINGLING BROS. and BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS.

 

Lastly, Painter produces a major fund raising event each year for The Nancy Painter Home For Mothers With Children Inc.  Painter is also the President and Founder of this ten year old organization.  This is a home for single mothers with children, named after and dedicated to his mother Nancy.  The home is located in Glendale CA and is operated by The Salvation Army.
